A man has died from a suspected overdose of a synthetic opioid, while a woman and two men have also been hospitalised in Adelaide.

South Australia Health confirmed protonitazene had been detected in the state’s illegal drug market and is suspected to have played a role in the man’s death.

The lethal opioid has been found in methamphetamine and ketamine in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.
