The Israeli parliament is heaping praise on Donald Trump, with one politician saying his actions later today could potentially change the course of history.

Benjamin Netanyahu has delivered a long speech praising Donald Trump, declaring the US President the “greatest friend” Israel has ever had in the White House.

“No American president has ever done more for Israel, and I said in Washington, it ain’t even close. It’s really not a match,” he said.

“Mr President, today we welcome you here to thank you for your pivotal leadership in putting forward a proposal that got the backing of almost the entire world.

“A proposal that brings all our hostages home. A proposal that ends the war by achieving all our objectives.

Large-scale prisoner releases are also underway. More than 1,700 detainees from Gaza and around 250 Palestinian prisoners are expected to be freed.

Vans believed to be carrying them were seen outside Ofer prison in Israel earlier, and hospitals in Gaza are preparing for the influx of returnees.
