Even just thinking about postponing it shows how little some people think of Italians around the world.
Not to mention that postponing it until 2027 would be truly insane, given that there will be general elections, while thinking about 2028 would mean waiting an eternity.

Massimo Romagnoli, head of the Italians Abroad Department of Alternativa Popolare, enters the public debate on the Comites elections, regarding the hypothesis, supported by part of Fratelli d’Italia and the Democratic Party, of a possible postponement.

Romagnoli has very clear ideas and firmly reiterates: “The election date must be respected, which means they must be held at the end of 2026. Postponing them would be a slap in the face to Italians around the world and an insult to democracy.
Even thinking about postponing them shows how little some people think of Italians around the world.

“Comites are a fundamental safeguard of democracy and dialogue between Italian institutions and communities around the world. Any postponement would be detrimental to the participation and voice of Italians abroad. Even the mere thought of a postponement shows how little some people value Italians around the world.”

We respect Italians abroad, we respect democracy: the funds for the Comites elections have already been found in the Budget Law, so Alternativa Popolare sees no reason to postpone them.

Romagnoli, a member of the General Council of Italians Abroad (CGIE), emphasizes that respecting election deadlines is not only a formal obligation but also a matter of dignity and representation for Italians living abroad.

“Comites,” he recalls, “are a fundamental safeguard of democracy and dialogue between Italian institutions and communities around the world. Any postponement would be detrimental to the participation and voice of Italians abroad.”

Alternativa Popolare reiterates its position in support of regular and transparent elections, with the full involvement of Italian citizens residing outside the national borders; at the same time, it calls on the institutions to ensure that the renewal of the Comites takes place according to the planned schedule, in full compliance with the law and the will of the voters.
